Is it just me or is there a glow around Tinker Tim? With 11 IceBikes to his credit, perhaps he’s bucking for sainthood designation. I’ll check the TCC policy manual to see if our bylaws will allow. God bless you Tim!

Hasn’t washed his winter cycling clothing for 11 years – that’s the reason for the AURA.

Why wash it when you only use it once every winter?

will we be rewarded with a post race report from the glow worm?

Don’t know if I can give you a race report but I can tell you what I observed during my ride. If you want a true race report go to the Olympia site and read Andy’s 3 part report of Lindsay “the Icon” Guald’s latest adventure in the Arrowhead 135 winter bike/running race, truly a fine read.
I overheard Chris LaB. saying to someone that the total racers were about 48 for this latest Icebike. Certainly down from previous years but somewhat indicitive if you rest on your laurels and fail to promote or provide some sort of variation/interest from one year to the next. The course was basically the same as the last 2 years with almost no ‘ice’ in the icebike this year. Nothing on the river…..all sidewalks and a liitle bit of grass/snow. I lined up near the back, probably not on purpose but certainly foreshadowing of things to come. Basically the keeners/ fast young guys (with a few faster old guys thrown in for good measure) took off with a good pack of blockers between them and myself. I managed to keep the rubber down on my single speed commuter (kona) for the whole race but my legs were wondering what was going on…..where were the long skinny slippery things that were supposed to be attached to my feet??? Other than one very rainy, wet, cold ride with Kevin (pronounced Keeyvin according to the ‘Race Across the Sky’ movie we were at the other week, but I digress) late this fall, my legs had not straddled a bike since Cross Riding (not racing) earlier in fall. My season long tapering is right on schedule although now I think this is the bottom and things are supposed to start tapering in the other direction, we’ll see I suppose. Oh yeah the race……not really much more to comment on….3 laps of 4 K……30-45min total for the ‘Abominable’, not really very abominable if you ask me so, yes, the Tinkerites from the south are excused for the 3 hrs of required driving for 40min. of foot freezing. I’m sure they had a fine time on the couch watching 4hrs of Stupor Bowl pre-game or Nascar. I’m sure the results will be posted within the next month so you’ll have to wait for any more Icebike info till then. Lincoln Wiebe was the 1st place Tinkerite and receives a free membership for the TCC bike club this year, way to go Lincoln, see James to redeem your prize.

Real nice Tim. Yeah, Linc can redeem his voucher…and what the heck, I’ll sweeten the pot for you just for being the TCC anchor you are. I mean that in the best possible way. I know what you mean by tapering. I’m all for the taper going the other way. Let’s keep each other honest.
