James was right

Cross country skiing does suck.

OK, beautiful winter day, decent temp, the sun getting that “warm” spring feel, recent snowfall. Should be a perfect day for a ski, so I skipped out a little early to go to Windsor Park for a few laps.

I guess I just like riding my bike way too much, cause I spent the first twenty minutes thinking, why didn’t I go for a bike ride? I am not a very good skier, not sure why, my midget legs maybe, a weak core, lack of coordination, but I have been skiing for probably a dozen years (that’s 12 incase you are from Saskatchewan). But around a half hour into my ski, shortly into the second lap, MISS WINNPEG 1972 blew by me on her vintage early 80′s setup, and even gave me a smirk. OK, I don’t ski “full out”, not even close, but she made me feel like I was going backwards. That just sucks!

Anyway, just reminded me and my bruised ego that nothing beats riding a bike, even on a “perfect” day. How long till spring?

I know the feeling. I’ve been on max effort only to be passed by 60+ folks just taking it easy with no poles!! However last weekend i had a very eye opening experience… turns out I’ve literally been polling with the wrong stroke… I’ve been skiing casually for at least 4 years (not that often) but no one noticed that. I’ve even had Gord B. the animal himself critique my skiing and even he didn’t notice it, except that I was way faster without poles… I just couldn’t figure out why! Now I know, and it’s going to be a big co-ordination ajustment…. but i’ve already noticed a difference! it was really seeming like I just wasn’t cut out for skiing (xc).

So, you’re saying the pointy end goes in the snow then? Maybe that’s my problem…

Geez Kevin. Thanks for the support. Being emasculated by MISS WINNIPEG probably sucks even more than cutting through 2 inches of Manitoba ice-crust with your face. Yet another reason to stay on the bike…at least that way we’ve got half a chance.
