Helmet use is mandatory at all time. But here are the full race rules that are also available at the bottom of the Back 40 page, might be good for everyone to review them if you’re not familiar with them.

Race Rules

•   All racer’s must wear a CSA approved helmet while riding on OR off-course (even the parking lot), before, during and after the race.
•  It is the racer’s responsibility to know where to “lap” and where to “finish”, if you do not know ask the officials during Staging on the starting line BEFORE your race. It is not the commissaires responsibility to tell you where to lap or finish during the race, but we will try to help.
•    All racer’s who do not finish MUST report to the officials at the Finishing Line to let them know they are not finishing.
•    All racer’s bikes must operate a bicycle in good working order, with both front and rear working brakes.
•    Racer’s will NOT be permitted to pre-ride or ride on the course once the 80 km Marathon race has started at 10am on August 10th. If you wish to pre-ride, the course will be marked by 3pm the day before the race or before 9:30 am on August 10th.
•    Racer’s shall act and race with caution and respect for their fellow racers. They may be held responsible for any accidents that they cause.
•    A racer must act in a sporting manner at all times and shall permit any faster rider to overtake without obstructing or block in any way (so basically, let faster riders pass you, do NOT obstruct or block them in any way, hold your line).
•    If a rider exits the course for any reason, he/she must return to the course at the same point from which they exited (you must stay on the course, no short cuts on unmarked corners either).
•    Music players and electronic devices are NOT allowed by any racer’s during any events.
•    Handlebars must have end caps.
•    Glass containers are not allowed on the course, including the feed zone.
•    Spectators should not be on the actual trail of the course if possible. They are welcome to spectate from the sides of the course, but must be careful not to impede any racers.
•    Spectators can not help or assist racers with mechanicals.

What to bring?

Basically all the normal stuff you take when going on a road trip to go MTB riding. Water/hydration & nutrition for the entire race, make sure your bike is in good working order and ready to go before you come, lawn chair, sunscreen, bug spray, a change of clothes for after.

There will be a complimentary BBQ and refreshments for racers after.

But most important, bring friends and family to race against (or at least heckle you)!

Back 40 Categories http://www.tinkercreekcycle.ca/back-40-bike-race/back-40-categories/ http://www.tinkercreekcycle.ca/back-40-bike-race/back-40-categories/#comments Thu, 12 Jun 2014 22:12:26 +0000 http://www.tinkercreekcycle.ca/?p=2717 Hey, full details are now on the Back 40 page. Note the changes to the categories for the 1 or 2 lap XC races. We’ll be splitting up those races into two age categories. 13-29 and 30 and over.

Those young punks are getting way too fast. You will all race together, but results and prizing will be based on those age breakdowns. The 80km marathon category is open to anyone over 18 only. But no age breakdowns for that one – may the fastest rider win.

More details will be coming over the next couple months.

Peter Loewen and Jason Wiebe as well as others are stepping up to help to ensure an awesome race. Expect some changes for the race in general. Nothing too crazy, but probably some new stuff. All the info will be updated when ready.

Funding the trails

Some of the funds will being going to help support the local trail organization. Sweet trails don’t just happen, they take a lot of work and maintenance. Bridges, gas, mowers, tools. So if you enjoy the trails around Morden and Tinker, help keep them in great shape by supporting the 2014 Back40.

Not an easy decision. Maybe not the end, but we’re taking the year off.

See you out on the trails.

Hibernation http://www.tinkercreekcycle.ca/the-farm-team/hibernation/ http://www.tinkercreekcycle.ca/the-farm-team/hibernation/#comments Tue, 15 Jan 2013 14:56:59 +0000 http://www.tinkercreekcycle.ca/?p=2558 It’s been a season of blog hibernation.

Personally, I’m totally in hibernation mode. But I have kept myself busy reading Scott’s status on Facebook about his fatbike adventures. Meanwhile, others are planning some winter races / events, each with their very own YETI. So the farm team decided to get it’s very own yeti.

IceBike 2013 – “Revenge of the hashtag#”

Good news is hibernation has ended for IceBike. It’s back this February 10th. Jaxon (AKA “hashtag”) is organizing. Jaxon likes to have fun & he’s a good guy, I think he’ll do a great job. How about if some of those fat bikes make their way to Winnipeg and actually do some racing? Details & Registration info is here >

If that’s not long enough for you – Actif Epica 2013

Ian Hall is putting on Actif Epica on Feb 16th again. Details are here > Crazy long for a winter race. Last year they lucked out with warm temps and a south wind & very little snow. Hopefully the weather works out better for them this year. I nominate someone else to represent Tinker at this one.

Put your money on Jason http://www.tinkercreekcycle.ca/the-farm-team/put-your-money-on-jason/ http://www.tinkercreekcycle.ca/the-farm-team/put-your-money-on-jason/#comments Thu, 25 Oct 2012 15:16:29 +0000 http://www.tinkercreekcycle.ca/?p=2545 Looks like there is a pretty large MB contingent heading to the 12 hour race just outside Grand Forks. Good luck to all the hosers heading down this weekend.

The good part is it is open to non-licensed racers, so anyone can race. You can even use a MTB. All the details are here. I will be at home giving thanks & eating Turkey & pie with family (again), but the folks in Altona apparently put on a really good event.
