Not really an official Tinker Creek event, but Tim did Commissaire & I did organize.

Awesome night for a Wed Night Race. Thanks to Tim for getting the results done quickly, Shawn Z and Tim for Commissairing, Chris for Medic services, (Bill A. for transporting Chris the medic,) Paul S for marshalling, Wayne B for all those berms and helping set up & Jiri for some post event IPA. (And of course Tyson my right hand man for helping organize.)

Back 40 Planning

OK, it was more about riding than any real planning.

Decisions we made;

Riding is awesome
The new “serpent” trail is tough & very fun – but not for the weak or those lacking skills.
Back 40 will happen, somewhere.
Food tastes good after a ride.

It was an awesome afternoon “planning”.

After whacking the rear stays on a big oak tree, knocked of the shifter braze-on and dimpled the carbon fibre. This ziptie setup let me finish the big loeppky last night. Good times!

Funny & a little scary

When he is not getting called names riding around Brandon, Airon Check posts funny photos on Facebook. Seeing as dudes from Brandon like to win the Back40, maybe it’s his turn?

In other bike related news, World Cup XC and DH racing started over the weekend. I got up early to watch it live on RedBull TV. It looks like XC courses are getting MUCH MORE technical in sections. This course has a some major rock gardens, 3 foot drops and this year added a steep DH shoot over some logs. Nice to see the best MTB riders win, not sure I have the skills to turn pro though.

So how long til we can get on the trails?

It feels so far away right now, but it will be a good time. Looks like the probable location for 2012 will be back to the super flowy lake trail in Morden. Mark it on the calendar.

Not sure where I have been, but it looks like Rocky is fully committed to the 29er HT race machine. (No more 26″ HT race bikes?) They are so committed Kabush is gone from the team (maybe it’s because he kinda talks like a ventriloquist – and that is kinda creepy anyway.) The new Vertex 990 RSL is very nice – apparently the 990 is how many grams the frame weighs. Check out the latest details from Rocky here.

Any word on if this will be the new “shop bike” for 2012 James?

Fall is a great time to cut new trails. They’re under snow now, but they’ve got me looking forward to spring. Only 4 or 5 months to go.
