1,000,000 kms
Check out this vid from the FreeP. Those that don’t know Lindsay, he’s done it all and them some. Gone to the Olympics, onwned Olympia on Portage, TransRockies, TransIowa, recently the Arrowhead Ultra and many others.
James was right
Cross country skiing does suck.
OK, beautiful winter day, decent temp, the sun getting that “warm” spring feel, recent snowfall. Should be a perfect day for a ski, so I skipped out a little early to go to Windsor Park for a few laps.
I guess I just like riding my bike way too much, cause I spent the first twenty minutes thinking, why didn’t I go for a bike ride? I am not a very good skier, not sure why, my midget legs maybe, a weak core, lack of coordination, but I have been skiing for probably a dozen years (that’s 12 incase you are from Saskatchewan). But around a half hour into my ski, shortly into the second lap, MISS WINNPEG 1972 blew by me on her vintage early 80′s setup, and even gave me a smirk. OK, I don’t ski “full out”, not even close, but she made me feel like I was going backwards. That just sucks!
Anyway, just reminded me and my bruised ego that nothing beats riding a bike, even on a “perfect” day. How long till spring?
Snowshoes rock
Spending some decent time on the lake trail with snowshoes. A bit slow but the dogs love it, and the north side drifts are pretty crazy. Fun to see the trails at a slower pace (I know, I know, I always see them at a ‘slower’ pace). Scott and I had a surreal ride on the hardpack just before Xmas and the big snow. The lake was our playground.
X-country skiing sucks
Doing the S climb pasture downhill on cheap boards across icy snow pack means the inevitable face-plant. I’ll have to go back to “classic”.
Wrestlers, shotguns & belt buckles
Last night a few Tinker members (and even some former Tinker members), were at PoloPark theatres to catch the Leadville Trail 100 movie, Race Across the Sky.
The movie was decent, the typical canned rock anthems at the appropriate times, a few inspirational “average rider” side stories and of course, the main storyline about Lance and Dave Wiens. The movie was pretty basic, but for me, the most entertaining part of the movie was the Race Organizer. Wow! For a minute I thought I was watching a cycling jersey clad televangelist. Then I noticed the MASSIVE belt buckle and realized he was either a Kevin Kilbrei wannabe or former WWF star Macho Man Randy Savage. (OK, he is certainly no KK, but he was certainly a character.)
Overall movie rating 3 gears out of 5. OK, not great, but a decent night out on a cold January night.
Post race refreshment were enjoyed with a few others guys from the BDS club, from the local MTB scene. Conversation revolved around the seeming lack of singletrack at the Leadville, XC skiing, riding in Fernie and the coming race season. Good times.
Kevin is awesome.
Kevin Braun has prevailed with his creative brain to build the new TCC website. Let’s make sure he wears his helmet to protect this valuable resource.
IceBike 2010
It’s that time of the year again. Woodcock Cycle in Winnipeg will once again be hosting IceBike at the Forks. It is usually a good time. The real question is if Tinker Tim can win yet another bike?
